Full steam ahead to improved service delivery through ICTs
Dear Stakeholders
The first quarter has come and gone and 2007 is already in full swing. Government is working full steam to address the issues affecting service delivery and economic growth across the local, provincial and national spheres and things are happening.
It is clear that local and provincial government is a focus area for ICT development now and in the future. Some large private sector organisations are also working, quite effectively in addressing various ICT issues affecting citizens.
In terms of National Government, ForgeAhead has already started in earnest with its SADC and National Government in support of the Pan African ICT in Government Conference, scheduled to take place during 7-9 May in Swaziland.
This Conference will bring together around 350 key decision makers from the public and private sectors across Africa, with a majority of delegates from Government, so networking will be the order of the day.
Highlights of the conference will be the attendance of ministers from the SADC region. ForgeAhead is aiming to secure a minimum of ten ministers from the 14 SADC member states. [For more info on the Conference click here]
The local and provincial governments are also taking the bull by the horns in leveraging ICTs to service their communities, weighing up the benefits of ICTs as apposed to the dire need for basic infrastructure, such as roads, water and electricity.
A National ICT strategy and single view of the public sector should be finalised as a matter of urgency to accelerate public service delivery. Currently some local governments are working in isolation as they cannot wait for SA government to finalise a national strategy.
In this newsletter you can read about what some of the provinces are doing in terms of addressing ICT needs. You will also find information on the concept of shared services and how this will assist provincial and local government to better align their efforts in the use of ICTs, and furthermore celebrate with the Western Cape in being the first province to formally launch its LOGICT forum. |
