FORGEAHEAD announced today further details of its upcoming 7th SADC ICT in Government Summit and Networking Forum scheduled to take place between 29th and 31st May in Mauritius.

ForgeAhead, together with Telkom - the Premier Knowledge Partner - will dialogue with stakeholders in Government and Private Sector on the status and use of technology in governments in the SADC region. ForgeAhead’s current SADC ICT in Government Research, undertaken between November 2007 and April 2008, provides the framework for the content to be delivered at the Summit.

One of the tracks in the Summit programme focuses on e-government and highlights some of the successes in governments in SADC countries. Two country case studies will provide insights into the best practices that have been achieved, with panel discussions at the end of each track.

Says Telkom’s Group Executive for National Sales and Marketing Operations, Godfrey Ntoele, “Our participation in the ICT in Government arena underscores our unwavering commitment to work with all stakeholders in the SADC, and the rest of the continent, in delivering effective ICT solutions to the region.”

ForgeAhead will also release its e-Government indicators for the SADC Region at the Summit and report annually on these indicators to show the adoption of e-Government in the region to provide comparisons to similar initiatives in the other regions of Africa.

“The e-government track will also highlight our findings from the research we’ve conducted into the status of e-government in the SADC region and provide guidance to those governments looking to embark on e-government projects of their own,” says Dorothy Haggard a director at ForgeAhead.

The overarching theme for the Summit addresses the role of ICTs in helping to achieve the Millennium Development Goals for the SADC region.
