African consulting and software development company.

Born in the south of England, Adrian’s
career began in the retail petroleum industry and later
moved into casino administration. Adrian emigrated to
Southern Africa in 1981 (acquiring South African
citizenship in the new democracy), where he has worked
in casino management, in financial computer systems, in
payroll processing, in software development & sales
before moving into recruitment & contracting of IT
skills, then on to technical training before joining
CompTIA in January 2000 as the regional International
Sales & Marketing Director.
From 2003 to 2005, he carried out consulting contracts
with ISETT SETA, SAP and City of Joburg/Wits University.
He joined ForgeAhead in March 2005, where he was Head of
Consulting until moving to the Joburg Centre for
Software Engineering in 2008 as Manager: Applied
Research Unit. Adrian has spent 20 years being involved
in activities to promote standards and growth in the ICT
sector. |

Ahmed Kassam, has been working in the fields of Innovative
Technology and Media for over 20 years. He has had the opportunity
to work in the most demanding regions from the developed world as
well as the developing world.
As a qualified Industrial Electronics Engineer from Kingston College
in the United Kingdom, he works with governments, development
partners and multinational organizations on ICT projects. Over the
last 12 years Mr. Kassam has spent most of his time on the African
continent, building an exemplary network of people, developing
business strategies around Innovative technologies in
Telecommunications, Internet Services, Satellite Technology and
Electronic Media.
In his previous role, Mr. Kassam was the head of Government
Relations for Microsoft Africa and Microsoft Special Advisor to the
African Union’s New Partnership for Africa’s Development (The NEPAD
eAfrica Commission).
Mr. Kassam’s goal is to continue working within the fields of
Innovative Technology and developing and executing strategies that
focus on building sound and sustainable business models. He has, on
many occasions, spoken at key events around the World, including the
G8 Africa business summit in the UK, the World Economic Forum, as
well as several NEPAD and Government forums in Africa, Europe and
the US.
Mr. Kassam is the founder of the eAfrica Development Corporation
Mr. Kassam also holds an advisory role with the NEPAD’s ICT Task
team – the eAfrica Commission
He has also been appointed the Commonwealth Business Council advisor
for Africa by the CBC in London.

Mrs. Edith
Ofwona-Adera is a Senior Program Specialist with the
International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of
Canada. Her specific focus is on Information and
Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D),
where she has been pivotal in supporting the
development of Uganda’s and Kenya’s
telecommunication access strategies and
implementation plans. She has managed various
innovative community-based ICT projects in Africa in
diverse fields such as health, governance,
education, gender, agriculture, poverty reduction
and community-owned ICT networks.
Edith has worked with IDRC for over 11 years in
various senior capacities including as Program
Manager for the ICT4D Program in Africa. Before
joining IDRC, she served, for 4 years, in the Kenyan
Ministry of Agriculture as a Senior Agricultural
Officer responsible for planning, developing and
evaluating donor-funded agricultural development
projects and programs.
Mrs Ofwona-Adera holds an MSc degree in Agricultural
Economics from the University of Nairobi; Bsc in
Agriculture from the University of Nairobi; a
diploma in “ICT Policy, Network Management &
Development” from the United States
Telecommunication Training
Institute (USTTI); and a certificate in
“Telecommunication Policy, Regulation and
Management” from Witwatersrand University, South
Africa. She has published several papers and
recently co-authored a book on “Gender and the
Information Revolution in Africa” with Prof. Eva
Rathgeber. She is also a recipient of several
international fellowships and awards. Active in
professional and philanthropic initiatives, Edith
holds several leadership positions including as a
board member of SiSi Kwa Sisi Inc (an international
charity for Kenyan AIDs orphans with headquarters in
the U.S.); a co-founder of the Kenya Information
Society (KIS); a member of the International
Telecommunication Union’s Gender Working Group, and
member of the International Association of
